Hairy Harry

Hairy HarryWhy not grow a 'living' gift that you can give to family or friends? Di Goodwin shows you how…

Hairy Harry A wonderfully easy gift idea that you can make is these green-haired creatures which can, in fact, be grown at any time of the year. They only take a few days to grow and you can either make a 'man' or creatures such as hedgehogs. Follow these step-by-step instructions with Jessica, Kajal and Jenny:
What you need: Old sock, a mug, spoon, grass seed, potting soil, elastic band, a saucer, 3 buttons, pins, jug, water. What you need: Old sock, a mug, spoon, grass seed, potting soil, elastic band, a saucer, 3 buttons, pins, jug, water.

Wet an old sock and put it into a mug. Turn the top of the sock over the rim of the mug.

Step 7. Turn it upside down on a saucer and pour water around it. For a nose, carefully push a pin through one of the holes in a button. Step 7. Turn it upside down on a saucer and pour water around it. For a nose, carefully push a pin through one of the holes in a button.
Step 8. For eyes, push in some more pins with buttons near the nose. Step 8. For eyes, push in some more pins with buttons near the nose.

To make a hedgehog, squash the sock into a pointy shape (you can make any shaped animal that you like). Put your creature into a warm, light room. Make sure you keep the top wet. You can cut the 'hair' short and let it grow again.
