Open Gardens 2018 – Driefontein Farm – KZN
October 26, 2018 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Anne and Robert McDougall
This beautifully terraced garden, which is only 9 years old, is verdant with veggies and mixed olive trees, espaliered apple and pear trees, a formal rose garden and a mixed country garden. The small hot house is an inspiration, and succulents, geraniums, cuttings and seedlings find shelter there – a wonderful resource for cooler climates. Art work, metal art display, and woodwork.
Why visit: Tiered variety from formal to country exuberance
Time to view: 30 – 40 minutes
Hannelie and Alastair McDougall
Driefontein, established in the 1970s, is a delightful country garden. Roses and perennials provide colour all year round and recent landscaping is proof that a garden is always evolving. A beautiful century-old ash tree stands proud alongside oaks and plane trees, and stone walls, rocks, and the trunks of invasive trees from around the farm have become garden features, edging various beds.
Why visit: Progressive and not so perfect
Time to view: 30 – 45 minutes
Directions: From Kokstad, take the Cedarville/Matatiele Road. Travel for 18 km and turn right on to the Droewig Road. Follow the dirt road for 8km, keeping left at the fork and turn on to Driefontein farm entrance on your left.
