Open Gardens 2018 – Milestone Forest Walk – KZN

This is natural, indigenous forest at its very best. The Milestone Forest Walk, which is on the historic farm where the very first conservancy in South Africa started in 1978, is a circular route that takes you through an indigenous forest, known as Afro-Montane or Midlands Mistbelt Forest. Some 17 trees are marked to assist in identification. The path will take around an hour to complete, and point A on the route will take you to some very old, huge magnificent trees, return along the same route.
Directions: From Howick, going north on the N3, take the exit 125, (Balgowan/Curry’s Post) and turn left away from the N3. Follow this district road for about 4 km (do not turn to the right to go down to Michaelhouse School) and turn left into D5033, From there follow the signposts.
A walking stick is recommended for the elderly. The walk can be slippery when wet.
