Bonsai Basics: How to Prune Your Bonsai Watch here!

How to:
– Prune branches back to 2 leaves with a branch cutter or leaf shear, ensuring long growth is removed
– Remove any very thick branches high in the canopy for scale and remove any crossing or unsightly branches
– Put bonsai cut paste on any large cuts

Ideal prune: Taper from thick trunk to very thin branches at the tips. This creates bushier and denser growth and finer, twiggy growth so the composition has scale and balance

Feed & protect: Spray the tree with a liquid fertiliser on the soil and, if needed, a systemic insecticide

And finally: Place the tree back in its growing position and water once a day (depending on your soil medium)
