Euryops pectinatus is an extremely hardy and superb indigenous, evergreen shrub known as the Golden Daisy Bush.
The Golden Daisy has soft grey-green toothed, fern like foliage and fills out to a height of 1 metre.Its grey foliage forms a strong contrast against its bright gold flowers.
It is frost hardy and fast growing so quickly fills any gap in a garden bed. It grows best in the full sun but will handle light shade; just remember it will then flower less.
This Euryops can grow in most soils as long as these are well drained, I have seen them planted en mass on traffic islands where they are in full flower and are coping well in the dry and windy conditions . For best results add well decomposed compost to the soil and this will improve their growth and mean a longer flowering period with more abundant flowers. This plant is happiest with moderate amounts of water and once established is water wise.
The Golden Daisy is free flowering with flowers appearing most of the year but its main display in spring. It has large, bright yellow, single daisy like flowers. Bees and butterflies are attracted to the dazzling flowers especially when plants are massed together in the garden.
It is a low maintenance plant that can be pruned lightly to keep it shape. Prune back hard every 3 years or so if it becomes woody.
Euryops pectinatus is great in mixed borders, use it as a filler in the shrubbery or make it a showpiece in the garden.
