Adding colour to your garden this Father’s Day

“Gardening is the art that uses flowers and plants as paint, and the soil and sky as canvas” - Elizabeth Murray

Stones are essential for any garden, and are a really fantastic way of brightening up the garden and giving it a unique touch. Painted stones can be used in various ways, such as labelling your herbs in the garden or adding cute little characters in between plants. For this project we chose to do a few personalised stones for Father’s Day to celebrate the amazing dads out there.

What greater way to get the dads in to the garden than by giving them their very own personalised stones! We all know that our dads are awesome, and let’s face it, they all think they are pretty awesome too – so these colourful, personalised stones will help assure them that they are in fact as great as they think.

What you will need:

  • 1 small bag of stones
  • 4 different colour paints
  • 2 paintbrushes
  • Water for washing brushes
  • Newspaper

What to do:

1. Wash your pebbles

Wash your pebbles with sunlight liquid and pat them dry them with a dishcloth.

2. Painting

Set up a painting area and cover it with newspaper (acrylic paint is very difficult to get off of surfaces). Have some turpentine ready to clean brushes.

Place your pebbles on the newspaper and paint a garden bug, a pattern, or simply ‘dad’, in the colours of your choice.

3. Dry in a sunny spot

Put your pebbles in the sun to dry. Once dry, apply a layer of varnish over your painted pebbles, to seal them. Allow to dry once again.

4. Place in your favourite spot

Choose a favourite spot in the garden with Dad, or the best visible area, and place your stones. Watch as your garden comes to life with new colour!
