Making Petal Soap for Mother’s Day

Petals are a nice personal touch to soap you're making so choose your mom's best kind! It’s such a fun way to make a special Mother’s Day gift.

What You Need:

  • 100% Pure soap base
  • Flowers – We’re using chrysanthemums and roses.
  • Essential oils
  • Shaped moulds (you can even use a yogurt pot and cut the bar into three pieces)
  • Knife for cutting the soap base
  • Cutting board
  • Jug
  • Scissors
  • Cellophane and ribbon for wrapping your finished soap

Step 1:

(Check the package instructions for your soap base.)

Cut the soap into small chunks so that it makes it easier to melt.

We melted ours in a jug in the microwave, 30 seconds at a time.

Pour each melted batch into a second jug as you're done melting it, collecting enough for your mould.

Leave it to cool. You'll know it's ready to pour when a thick skin forms on the top.

Step 2:

Pick off the flower petals.

Step 3:

Stir the flower petals and a some essential oil (depends how scented you want it) into the melted soap base.

Step 4:

Pour the mixture into the mould and leave it to set. The mould should be cold to the touch before attempting to remove it. Put gentle pressure...

Step 5:

Try leave your soap to set for a day or two before wrapping it. Coloured cellophane works best.

You can use your mom’s favourite colour! Use some pretty ribbon to tie it together. Your mom will love it!
