Who can resist the juicy, sweet, bright fruit of a strawberry? They are always delicious regardless of where they are served.
Strawberries are easy and rewarding to grow and will do well amongst other shrubs in a garden bed or in a pot. The trick is to ensure they are planted in soil that has been richly mulched and is well drained.
They well cope in partial shade but are best in a full sun position.
When Strawberries are planted in garden beds and veggies gardens ensure they are planted in slightly raised mounds to help with drainage and fruit quality. Plant them approximately 25 cm apart and cover with a good mulch afterwards.Ensure that planting is not too deep as this will cause the crown (centre) of the plant to rot.
Ensure a happy healthy plant and delicious berries by using a good organic feed, regular deep watering and applying a mulch.
The fruit can be harvested and enjoyed straight from the garden or with a glass of bubbly from spring to summer ☺
