Cumin Hermannia (Hermannia saccifera)

ENG: Cumin Hermannia

AFR: Koemynbossie

DESCRIPTION: Hermannia saccifera is a small shrub that grows low to the ground. The leaves are lancet shaped and finely toothed with a light green colour. The flowers are yellow bell shaped and remind of fairy dresses.

GROWTH HABIT: This plant will rarely reach a high more than 10cm but it will sprawl to about 40cm wide. It flowers in spring from August to October and makes quite a show. It is medium to fast growing and mat forming

GARDEN USES: It works well as a ground cover on a slope or to cascade over retaining walls or hanging baskets.

REQUIREMENTS: The salvia is not completely frost hardy but it will grow back after light frost. Just cut back after winter in order for the plant to rejuvenate. It needs full sun for at least two thirds of the day. Salvias are waterwise and can stand a bit of summer heat.
