Bracteantha are commonly known as ‘straw flowers’ or ‘everlastings’. Planting them will ensure a bright long lasting display of summer colour for garden beds and pots. They thrive in areas with long, hot summers and therefore are perfect specimens for South African gardens.
Bracteantha Mohave™ series has flowers which occur in a range of brilliant colours. These have a paper like texture and a very long flowering potential. Bracteantha Mohave ™ has particularly large flowers which occur on straight stems. The strong, straight stems make the flower heads stand out in the garden but also make them great cut flowers and beautiful small posies for a home. Bracteantha do not lose their colour or shape once dried so they make excellent ’everlasting’ posies too.
Flowers start in late spring and occur well into the late summer months. Spent flower heads can be trimmed to encourage more blooms later in the season.
Bracteantha Mohave™ love the sun and are heat and drought-tolerant. They have low water requirements and are classified as disease resistant. They will grow in sandy, gravelly soil, be aware of over watering or clay soils as they cannot handle standing in water. Plants reach about 30 – 40 centimeters in height and form a mounded growth habit.
These are excellent for pots on patios and they make attractive edging plants. The bright colors and contrasting green leaves look striking planted en masse.
